I need an author photo

Warning: this post will appear a little narcissistic because it will be filled with photos of ME!

It isn't completely necessary for me to have an author photo, but I keep finding places where I can enter them. I should probably stick to one, but I keep switching around. Any input as to which I should stick with? Or should I just break down and have a photographer take a fancy portrait for me?

I had my husband take a picture of me in my new Wonder Woman tee that I got (I got a matching one for my daughter who adores Wonder Woman).
I look like me, happy but maybe a bit unhinged:

I  like that this one has my girls in it, but at the same time I don't like that it has my girls in it, if you know what I mean. Plus it was bright out, and I'm squinting:

Here I am, trekking it up. Of course, in the thumb nail version you don't really get the full effect of the Star Trek uniform and there might be copyright issues with the Federation logo.

Then we have my Whovian in a hat photo.

Then we have sophisticated party me, taken at my grandfather's retirement party. My face is shiny here though.

Squirrel!

Or very pregnant, dressed by my toddler:

Or no makeup, bad hat, hipster don't care look.

Three years ago me, with very short hair.

  1. I would go for Wonder Woman or Grandpa's party. I think you should have one with just you, and close up enough to see your face. They do say you should pick one author picture and use it everywhere as part of your branding.

    1. A lot of these could be cropped, of course. (Some were jokes. I am NOT putting no makeup, bad hat, hipster me on a book cover.)

  3. I love Wonder Woman the most I think. :) You look pretty in all of them, though! Even no makeup, bad hat, hipster don't care!

    1. Thanks. I have a lot of "bad hat" selfies from my obsessive crocheting days.

  4. You are so pretty! For your author photo, I think you should try taking some with nature in the background instead of man-made objects.

    1. That's a good idea. Just an issue of getting someone to take it for me.

    2. Your husband did a good job on first photo! I always get mine to take a bunch and move my head at different angles so I can pick most flattering one later.

    3. Yeah, he absolutely refuses to say, "say cheese" so I'm sitting there trying to hold a smile and when I finally ask, "Are you going to take it?" he says, "I just did. You blinked."

    4. Ha, that's hilarious. Just tell him to keep snapping and I promise there'll be a good one in there amongst the blinks and talking ones.
