NaNoWriMo Again!

I wasn't going to "play" this year. I have won three years in a row, (Dragon's Curse, Dragon's Bride, and Lands of Ash were all started during NaNoWriMo), and I've established a healthy writing habit that has enable me to keep up a decently prolific publishing schedule ... plus we're preparing for a cross country move, and I have two projects to prepare for publication ... lots going on.

But then I got an idea, the sort of idea I just had to write anyway, so I decided to go for it:

Introducing Dessa and the Nurse Dragon.

Obsessed with dragon racing, Dessa spends her limited pocket money on packs of dragons eggs. She hopes beyond hope that one of them will hatch into a rare dragon only to be disappointed again and again with common, short-lived mayfly dragons.
However, when a seemingly common egg hatches a dragon like none she's ever seen, Dessa gets more than she bargains for and soon finds herself surrounded by dragon related difficulties.

A couple of things to note: I may cheat on the word count. This is a middle grade concept. Middle grade stories traditionally run a bit shorter than adult novels, and looking over the skeleton outline I mapped out over the last few days (I'm a hybrid pantser/plotter. I do a really rough synopsis prior to writing and then keep myself open to deviating as inspiration strikes), I estimate this book to be between 20k and 30k words of length. That's not enough to win NaNoWriMo.
But I may supplement with other work if I finish off the story and find I still have words left to win ... or I may just make 25k my personal goal. Either way, I'll be posting occasional updates and you can follow me on NaNoWriMo's site here.
