The H. L. Burke Random Interview is not like other interviews. The questions are all over the place. They have no purpose. Their purpose is their lack of purpose.
There are nine questions because cats, but these nine questions are subject to change without notice, so the questions one person answers may not be the questions answered by the next author.
Today let's get right into it with a visual tour from author, Sybrina Durant!
When cats take over the world, how do you plan to win their good graces?
I would offer to feed them the fanciest of feasts ~ They wouldn’t be able to resist the delicacies from my kitchen and would have to keep me near as a most desired companion.
Best writing tool: pen, pencil, keyboard, or crayon?
I love crayons! Different colors and line weights for a rainbow of musings. Vibrant reds, fluorescent pinks and sunny yellows for happy writings. Deep blues, dark purples and forest greens for more profound thoughts.
And all colors to fill in the spaces on “The Blue Unicorn’s Journey To Osm Illustrated “Read and Color” book for teens and older readers.
What's your sign? Mine is that one that warns you to watch for falling cows.
Yield – to the call of all life’s fanciful offerings. Better to have lots of amazing memories once it’s all said and done rather than to have the regrets of none at all.
If you were the captain of a space ship, what would its mission be? Exploration? Colonization? Partying? – Just like the metal-horned unicorns did in The Blue Unicorn’s Journey To Osm, I would go on a mission to bring magic to all worlds that lack it. But I would try to be a little better prepared than the unicorns from Unimaise were. Getting stranded on a planet with an evil sorcerer who wants to strip you of your horns and hooves is not an ideal situation.
You approach a wooden door at the end of a long, dark passage. It is big and heavy. A strange warmth radiates from the wrought-iron handle. You hear a strange noise rising through it. What's on the other side and what do you do? “What’s that sound?” I stop as a deep rumbling slightly vibrates the door.” Fearing the worst, I turn to run away and then hear, “mrow”. I grin and without hesitation, throw open the door. A soft, fluffy ball of furry friendliness leaps into my arms, purring loudly. “Oh Kitty,” I say…”You frightened me.” She just smiles…
Who is your fictional best friend and what activities do you choose to do together?
Silubhra, the Silver-Horned Unicorn and I love to write and sing songs together. Of course, she is much better than I. Possessing a silver-tongue, as she does, she has the ability to magically persuade anyone within hearing distance with the power of her voice. Depending on the situation, it can make one return to their fondest youthful memories. . . or reach into their very bones shattering them as if they were glass.
Can you simply walk into Mordor?
I don’t look much like an Orc so I don’t think they would let me just waltz right in. However, if I were a talented enough seamstress, I might be able to construct some sort of costume that could fool enough of them to let me pass. Not sure I’d want to go there though…too scary. The picture below is my version of Orcs. These guys are the Bugans – a filthy crew of bug bashers. They use the leathery wings of the Humongas Elutron to fashion their shields.
Favorite flavor (of what? EVERYTHING!)?
Sweet! Just like all the unicorns in my story, I have a very sweet tooth. In fact, a little 9 year old beta reader of ‘Unicorns From Unimaise – The Magical Metal-Horn Tribe’ told me, “You might want to put a warning at the bottom of this page that sweets are bad for your teeth.” LOL
Oh, another note about sweet, sugary things. I even wrote a song about a pirate’s love for sugar when I was co-writing children’s book with author, Sandi Johnson. You can hear it here if you are so inclined. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?
What method do you suggest for dealing with dragons?
Don’t try to outsmart them. You just can’t. Unicorns are my specialty so I can’t claim to know everything about dragons but my guess is, a little bit. . . to a lot of ego stroking is the only way to go with of them. You’re the dragon expert so give us a clue, will ya? J
If this question were any question in the world, what question would you want it to be and how would you answer it?
Why is it so hard for authors to get discovered these days? Because there are so many more books than ever before! In fact, due to self-publishing being so easy and accessible, there are about 500,000 new books offered to the public for sale in the US alone every year! Whew! That’s a lot of books. But when you are lucky enough to gain the attention of an amazing author who has a well-read blog, it takes you miles further than you were before. Thank you so much, Heidi, for all you do to help promote other authors, especially when you are such a busy writer yourself. We are all in your debt! Wishing you great success in all of your endeavors.
