Random Interview Saturday! B. T. Lord
The H. L. Burke Random Interview is not like other interviews. The questions are all over the place. They have no purpose. Their purpose is their lack of purpose.
There are nine questions because cats, but these nine questions are subject to change without notice, so the questions one person answers may not be the questions answered by the next author.
Today's author comes in carrying a very large bag. I wonder what she has inside. It's B. T. Lord!
|B. T. Lord|
B.T. Lord is the creator of the Twin Ponds Murder Mystery Series set in Maine, as well as the soon to be released Coffin Islands murder/paranormal series. She lives in the woods of New Hampshire with her husband, three dogs and lots of wildlife.
Did you bring me anything?
I have within this little box in my oversized bag the secrets of the universe, given to me by the Magnificent Wizard Merlin (actually, it’s his second hand man Melvin, who unbeknownst to many people, steps in and actually does a lot of the spells himself. But you know how it is. Egos must be preserved when you’re dealing with a wiz like Merlin). For a smile and a promise to spread good cheer and happy unicorns and sparkly rainbows – arrgghh. Can’t go on. I’m on sugar overload. Sorry. Here’s a bottle of wine.
Write me some Vogon Poetry (for those not in the know, Vogon poetry is so awful you’ll want to rip your ears off and eat them. It’s considered a method of torture in many corners of the galaxy. So give us your worst).
There was once a lady who loved to write
But what was right to write?
I could write with my left
I could write with my right
But my computer is broken and I’m screwed.
Soooooo not right.
Which of the following potions would you like to possess: a Love Potion, a Sleeping Potion, an Invisibility Potion, or Coffee?
Definitely invisibility potion so I could steal delicious molti mucho grandi cups of vanilla latte that no one in their right mind can afford.
Fill in the blanks. I am a were____ but I only turn when the ___ is ___.
I am a werethere, but I only turn when the there is here.
Do you consider yourself a cat person, or a dog person?
I have three dogs so in the interest of protecting a cat, and my nose because of my severe allergy to cats, I must do without a feline. When I need my cat fix, I go to my friend who has a Norwegian Forest cat. Big, grey and white and nice – for about three and a half seconds. Then the claws come out. (And he wonders why he’s lonely).
What is your ideal writing space?
I live deep in the woods so in the warmer weather, I love to sit outside and write. In the cooler weather, I have a rocking chair in the living room. I wait until everyone’s asleep. Then I light a candle and blissfully enter my fictional world.
You have to either change your hair color or your eye color, which do you change and to what?
Hmmm. I’ve already done the purple hair. But I haven’t done purple eyes. Since purple is my favorite color, it might be worth a try. I mean, look what violet eyes did for Elizabeth Taylor.
If I were to invite you over, what snacks would you bring, keeping in mind that fruit and dried fruit are not snacks?
I have a recipe for a dessert called Millionaire’s Shortbread that I found on Pinterest. Since we’d be chatting like mad – because that’s what writers do when they meet up with another writer - we must have chocolate. And since we’re both indie writers, eating Millionaire’s Shortbread is putting the universe on notice that we wouldn’t mind selling a gazillion books and become millionaires eating millionaire’s shortbread.
If this question were any question in the world, what question would you want it to be and how would you answer it?
Why do you write?
I write because I must. I don’t have a choice. There’s a pull that urges me to sit down and spin these stories. If I don’t, my characters start complaining. And they can be pretty insistent. I worked in corporate America for many years, making someone else’s dreams come true (i.e. the Chairman, the VPs and the Board of Directors). Now it’s my time to make my own dreams come true. If I can get one reader to pick up my books and become lost in the town and the characters I’ve created, and at least listen with an open heart and an open mind to my philosophy, subtly weaved throughout my stories, about life, death, the human condition, and the fact that, as humans, we’re more alike than we are different, then I’ve done my job.
And it’s a damned good, fun job.
