Random Interview Saturday! Patricia Mather Parker

DISCLAIMER

The H. L. Burke Random Interview is not like other interviews. The questions are all over the place. They have no purpose. Their purpose is their lack of purpose.

There are nine questions because cats, but these nine questions are subject to change without notice, so the questions one person answers may not be the questions answered by the next author.

Our next author swoops in from the sky to answer our questions. She's PATRICIA MATHER PARKER!

About the Author

I've always been afraid of the dark. As a child, I was certain I knew where the monsters in my closet hid, so I didn't go in there after sunset. Nothing much has changed over the years. I don't have the same closet any more, but there are always new closets, shower curtains hiding whatever's lurking in the tub, dark hallways, noises in the night, and, well, darkness.

Maybe that's why I've always been drawn to fantasy. All of that braving of the darkness in spite of monsters, evil wizards, huge dark chasms ... and the heroes almost always start out as regular folks (Harry and Hermione, Frodo, Katniss Everdeen, Buffy). Fantasy stories scare me, thrill me, teach me, and give me hope. Most importantly they entertain me.

The Interview

If you had to write only in one crayon color for the rest of your life, what would you choose?
Purple. Purple for  dragons. sunrises and sunsets. cloaks, hats with feathers, capes.

What's in the box? What box? How should I know!? You're the one standing there with an imaginary box!
The box holds the answers to all of the questions that come up while I’m writing: What should I say next?. How should I phrase that? What does that character want? What does she wear? How will we defeat the villain?... It’s not a writer’s block. It’s a Writer’s BOX!

In your opinion, which is the best space ship?
I’m going to have to go with the Star Trek Enterprise that Jean Luc Picard captained. If I weren’t married and he asked, I’d travel to any distant world with Patrick Stewart. Turns out he’s reprising the role!
Fill in the blanks. "You are a ... but you only turn when ... is ..."
I am a wereraven but I only turn when the moon is dark.

You have superpowers. What are they and what do you do with them?
I have recently discovered in myself the ability to enter the minds of the world’s movers and shakers and convince them it’s time to save what’s left: no more war, no more famine, no more killer chemicals and fossil fuels, and, best of all, no more money. Eventually, everyone will be involved in the project. Worldwide.  I’m working on finding a date in my calendar to get this done.

I also fly. Mostly for pleasure.

You can have ANY creature as a pet, even mythical ones. What's your first pick?
Dragon, definitely. Black dragon. Fire-breathing. My dragon is my guardian and my friend.  If you’ve never ridden on a dragon, I hope you’ll have the chance one day. Nothing equals the view from your dragon’s back.

Give yourself a totally new look, as dramatic as you want. What is it?
Aaaaah. I am tall, slender, with a long neck. My clothes, long and flowing, come in dark blues, purples, and reds. I’m noted for my perfect accessories, particularly my hand-made jewelry. I wear dresses most of the time or long, loose pants and perfectly fitting tops. My makeup is subtle, enhancing my dark-brown eyes, high cheekbones, and brown skin. Full lips, but not too full. Long fingernails, always look as if I just came from the salon.

What sort of flower are you? You're not a weed are you? We don't allow weeds in our flower bed!
Black-eyed Susan.

If this question were any question in the world, what question would you want it to be and how would you answer it?
Q: Ms Parker, would you kindly accept our offer of the Pulitzer Prize for Literature this year?

A: I’m about to accept when I wake up.
